last day of the exhibition
Saturday 11th of October was a beautiful sunny day and lovely weather for several hundred people attending the 2114 Hawkesbury Earthcare Fair... and the Piggery was busy with visitors all day long. It is often remarked that the Piggery is quite unique in the Sydney region, and it has quality artwork and is a delight to visit
Sunday 12 October was the last day of the exhibition for this year, it was a quieter day and Marion took the opportunity to do some more work to her large landscape

A buzzy time at the Piggery today!
for some time bees have been making their home in the boards at the back of the Piggery, and today Sharron (who used to be a beekeeper) with the help of some friends, removed the bees and will be splitting them into two hives and taking them to new homes.
One hive will be remaining in the grounds for the benefit of Earthcare... they will not be a danger for anyone visiting our continuing exhibition.

Irish film makers at opening
We had special international guests attend our opening on Saturday night, highly acclaimed Irish film makers from Dublin, Barrie Dowdall and Siobhan Lynam who are in Australia promoting their new documentary Convict Women and Orphan Girls. Thanks to Barrie and Siobhan for squeezing our event into their busy schedule, and thanks to Peter Fenton for arranging to bring them to the Piggery on their way to Thompson Square for the CAWB film night where the movie was being shown and an informative questions and answers session afterwards. Will post photos when they are available.

'Somewhere Under the Rainbow'
It's not the Yellow Brick Road, but all you had to do yesterday to get there was follow the road and aim at the Rainbow!

Hawkesbury Art Fair
The Hawkesbury Regional Gallery recently held it's inaugural Hawkesbury Art Fair, a curated exhibition of local (Hawkesbury) artists and Art Groups.
The Piggery Lane Studios were represented there, the works selected may not have been typical of all the artworks on show at the Piggery... but overall it made up a very fine exhibition and it is hoped this will become an annual event at the Regional Gallery
Some of the Piggery Lane Studios works at the Gallery
Malcolm Robertson was also asked to do a portrait demonstration... the subject was Peter Kay, who is a regular Father Christmas at the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney.

Gallery becomes Gourmet restaurant!
On the third Saturday of the month, on the same day that the Piggery has it's monthly 'Open Day', Ling Halbert runs a vegetarian cooking class at the adjoining Earthcare centre. This month it was decided to try something excitingly different, to present and eat the food in the the Piggery Lane Studios instead of the Earthcare centre.
Maybe not quite as much room as the Earthcare building, but the ambience of the Piggery certainly added to the atmosphere and flavour of the food.
a couple of photos before the commencement of the meal...
more photo's and details of the day, the food and the recipes can be found on Ling's website on the Superfood at Earthcare with Elegant Art link
I must say that it was 'Superfood'... and it was delicious!
By coincidence one of the members of the class said that her father, who came out from Wales in 1912, worked at the Piggery 70 years ago when it was an active piggery, and was actually injured a few times with some of the equipment that was in use back then!
