my first plein air sketch for a couple of years today... a view of the 'The Piggery'
In the early 1900's 'The Piggery' & 'Piggery Lane' were an important and active part of the Hawkesbury Agricultural College. In recent times the renamed building 'D9' on 'Campus Drive' at Western Sydney University, Richmond NSW. 'THE PIGGERY' is now part of the Hawkesbury Community Arts Workshop and has become the Working Studios and Gallery’s of six artists. Information on open days, workshops, and events will be made available on the Blog.

A New Portrait
So far I have only painted one portrait in the 'Piggery' but Bert Moriarty came round today and I was able to start a 24 x 18 oil Portrait of him in about 100 minutes... hopefully he will be able to come round again next week so that I can do more to it!

There was a bit of excitement today when 50 bulls were moved down the road past the piggery. They started off orderly and then as you can see by the photos, jammed up at the toilet block as though waiting for instructions. The Alpaca guarding the sheep was on high alert and there was a lot of bleating and mooing. Then the bulls headed off towards the piggery, but there was a bit of confusion when a few stopped to drink from the puddle of water at the Earth Care driveway. After a bit of coaxing they were on their way again, and they got a bit of a run up and started trotting fast down hill, as you can see from the speed blur. I stood by my post at the piggery door throughout the whole ordeal to avoid a bull in a china (pottery!) shop - speaking of which we sold two pieces of pottery today and a painting from the gallery last week!

Artisans Trail weekend
The Hawkesbury Artists and Artisans trail weekend was Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th August.
The Piggery Lane Gallery & Studios were open 10-4 as a part of the trail and had a number of visitors passing through and enjoying the heritage building and artworks
.
Peter Christian from "time'n motion pictures" took some extensive live footage of some of the Studios/Gallery and Artists as a part of his ongoing project of filming local old buildings and their current uses... it will be interesting to see if this finishes up as part of a completed work somewhere!
discussions over some of the pottery items
even the local wildlife showed a keen interest in some of the installations
